Co więc tak nas oburzyło? Zachowanie ludzi…
Kina z klimatem. Gdy je zobaczyłam, pomyślałam, ż
Today's entry is about how Aga and Nuno are getting some culture in Bucharest. Until yesterday we already went to a recital of Chopin, ballet, and yesterday we decided it was time for mass culture, so we went to the cinema. We chose a commercial multiplex in the mall, but since we wanted to see Alice in Wonderland in 3 D, we had no other choice but a commercial cinema. After the movie, or maybe even in the middle of it, we decided that perhaps it is the last time we ever went to the cinema in Romania. And it was not because the film was so mediocre that it discouraged us of watching any movies whatsoever (I won’t write about the movie itself, cause it is not the purpose of this blog) .
So what shocked us so much? The way people behaved ... Sometimes we were more focused and interested in what was happening happened with the audience than on the screen. What is not the purpose of going to the cinema, I guess. Until yesterday I thought that people go to the cinema to watch a movie. At least it is why I go to the cinema, cause for Romanian there must be some other reason. But let’s start from the beginning....
If we don’t count the fact that the cashier sold Nuno three tickets instead of two (and words two three aren’t even similar), we weren’t expecting any other surprises. After all, multiplex in Bucharest should not be any different from the multiplex in any other European city. Well, the multiplex may not differ, but human behaviour, is a different story.
There weren’t many people, quite the contrary. Before the movie started, they were all talking quite loud, which is normal behaviour, they didn’t stop during commercial and trailers, which can be understood, then the movie begun and they didn’t lower their voices at all. And they didn’t drop it until the end of the movie. We couldn’t focus because of the loud comments or when they were laughing at the scenes that were no funny at all. As a result, we couldn’t hear some parts of the dialogues, and since the subtitles were in Romanian (and neither of us understands it) we couldn’t catch up what was happening on the screen by reading the transcription of dialogues.
Another thing, popcorn. Eating popcorn is standard, as having dirty and oily hands afterwards is. But normally you wipe your hands discreetly in discreetly in a handkerchief, a back of your chair or even your own trousers. Well, we were lucky to be sited next to a women that every five minutes were clapping (sic!) her hands to get rid of the popcorn crumbs. It seemed normal as well to leave your cell with the sound on. I don’t know how many people answered their cell and spoke normally, not even lowering their voice. But what shocked us probably the most, was when a guy decided that he urgently needed to call somewhere in the middle of the movie. He didn’t see any reason to leave he just dialled the number and talked for some, not showing any signs of embarrassment. And since in the cinema you there is no “no pause option”, the movie was on. When he ended his conversation, he dropped his cell and instead of looking for it discreetly, he just stood up and with all the noise possible were looking around his seat, disturbing the people that were behind him.
Summing up, talking over the phone, commenting on the movie without lowering the tone of voice, seems to be something completely normal, since we were the only one who found that shocking and annoying. At some point we also started commenting, not on the movie, but on the audience.
Fortunately, I discovered some totally different cinemas. Lost ones, that looks as if they were from another times. Where you can only see one movie (sometimes the
